About me

I live on the windswept Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides with my family and lots of sheep. I have been a journalist, a teacher and a community worker. One of my first jobs was selling bottles of coloured sand at a theme park.

I have been writing stories since I could pick up a pencil, but it took a lot of years and a lot of trying before my first book for children was published, in 2024.

My favourite part of being an author is getting out and about and meeting people who have read my books. My favourite moment, is when I first get to see the illustrations from a story I’ve written. Making a children’s book is a team effort and I’m lucky that I get to work with super-talented people on all of my story projects.

I love writing stories inspired by local wildlife, my (sometimes) silly family, and incredible creatures like dragons and sharks. I get cross about things like litter (especially dog poo) and people (especially the ones who live in my house) who don’t pick up their socks!

My favourite snacks are milk chocolate and almonds. My least favourite snacks are Haribos (ugh!) and uncooked marshmallows (but flame-roasted, they are amazing).

I’m available for in-person school visits through the Scottish Book Trust’s Live Literature Programme and can also work with schools to arrange for a letter or online chat.
